MONTGOMERY, Texas (AP) - A Houston-area teenager has died after the all-terrain vehicle he was riding crashed into a brick culvert while being pursued by a law officer.
The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the youth as 17-year-old Samuel Paul Acreman of Montgomery. Investigators say Acreman was dead at the scene before dawn Saturday.
DPS spokesman Erik Burse says Acreman, who was not wearing a helmet, was driving the ATV without lights on when he almost rammed a squad car on routine patrol. Burse says the officer began chasing the ATV when the driver refused to stop.
DPS says the teen apparently lost control on a curve and crashed into the brick culvert in an area near his neighborhood.
Investigators will review the case. Prosecutors did not immediately return a message Monday.
