The City of Buckholts has appointed Johnny Shawn Newsom as its interim police chief and his first day on the job is Friday, February 1st.
Newsom will keep his full-time job with the Texas Municipal Police Association where he's responsible for training officers around the the state on alcohol related issues.
The former Williamson County Sheriff's Deputy has more than 25 years experience in law enforcement. He's also a certified paramedic, pilot and volunteer firefighter.
City Council members made the announcement regarding Newsom's appointment at last week's council meeting stating they expect him to work 15 to 20 hours in Buckholts.
The town's former chief, James Blackmon was fire after being arrested and charged with falsifying government records. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education conducted the the investigation that led to Blackmon's arrest.
