Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies were involved in an early morning confrontation when one person was shot and killed.

It happened Sunday around 3:00 a.m. when one vehicle fled the scene of a minor traffic accident on SH 242 and IH-45.

Deputies began a pursuit of the vehicle they say was driven by Gregory Allen Bridges, 44, after it was spotted near The Woodlands in Harris County. Deputies were able to slow the vehicle down by placing spike strips ahead of the pursuit.

The suspect’s tires began to deflate as the chase continued into a large, enclosed parking lot on Sawdust Road in south Harris County. Bridges became trapped and was circling the parking lot in his vehicle. He then accelerated his car toward a deputy. The deputy aimed and fired at the suspect at least three times and struck the man in the chest at least once.

Bridges was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he later died.

The Texas Rangers, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes and the District Attorney’s office are all investigating the incident. As the investigation continues, the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
