WASHINGTON (AP) Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says former Defense Secretary Robert Gates is out to make a buck with a book denigrating other senior officials.
Reid was one target of Gates in his book, while President Barack Obama, Vice President Joseph Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also came in for criticism.
Reid said he hasn't spoken with Obama about the book. But he said he has discussed it with Biden.
In the book, Gates says Obama was frustrated with policy in Afghanistan, Biden has been wrong about almost every major foreign policy issue for decades, and Clinton said her opposition to a 2007 troop surge in Iraq was dictated by campaign politics. He also hit Reid for saying the surge wasn't accomplishing anything because the war was lost.
