Investigators found the missing car of a former Hearne City Councilman, whose body was found Monday in his home, according to sources.
They say 63-year old Charles Workman's 2002 Jaguar was found burned on the side of Highway 6 between Bryan and Hearne Sunday night.
Charles Workman's family says the last time they spoke with him was Friday.
"He hadn't showed up for work for a couple of days, so we thought he was visiting with our nephews in Wichita Falls. We had been going by the house and didn't see a car so we assumed he was gone,” said Wanda Workman Williams.
The Brazos County Sheriff's Office says they did respond to a burning car Sunday night on Highway 6 and OSR.
Sheriff Chris Kirk wouldn't say what kind of car was found, but did say investigators believe someone set it on fire. Sheriff Kirk also said Hearne Police have an interest in the vehicle.
Less than 24 hours later, Workman's sister says, after not hearing from her brother for a couple of days, her son decided to go through a window of Workman's house in Hearne. She says he found Workman's body inside.
A Robertson County News reporter says Workman had been shot in the head.
Later Monday evening, Hearne police confirmed the body was that of Workman. Police say his body was sent to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Hearne Police wouldn't release any new information on the case.
Family members say Workman was a local Baptist minister. He also served as a coordinator for the non-profit Texas Justice Network seeking reform in the criminal justice system.
