A standoff situation ended peacefully Monday evening in Brazos County.
The Brazos County Sheriff's Office says it got a call around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon from a family saying their grandson was causing a disturbance at their home on Straub Road, in the Wellborn area, and they were worried about his safety.
Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk says Nick Beal, 22, left his grandparents' home and barricaded himself inside his family's home next door.
The situation escalated when they found out he was armed.
"We learned that he had a firearm and then he was threatening that if he saw any law enforcement that he would take his own life," Kirk said.
The Department of Public Safety and College Station police assisted, and the Reverse 911 system was used to tell nearby residents to shelter in place.
Negotiators and family members were able to talk Beal into surrendering around 6 p.m. Monday.
He was taken into custody and is undergoing a mental evaluation.
