Cold Front Has Arrived!
It's here! The strong cold front we've been anticipating all week long has finally arrived and is packing quite a bit of a punch along with it.
Temperatures have been falling quickly since early this morning and will continue to do so throughout the day, dropping into the lower to mid 40s by 5pm.
As the front moves through today, we are expecting increasing rain chances, in addition to those falling temperatures, through the day.
A reinforcing shot of cold air will keep temperatures moving south towards freezing by Friday evening.
There is a slight chance for possible sleet/freezing rain over the weekend with temperatures continuing to cool & rain chances hanging around.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is urging drivers to use caution on the roadways over the next few days because of the weather.
DPS encourages all motorists to avoid unnecessary travel if possible
And monitor local weather broadcasts and conditions.
Remember that ice forms first on bridges, overpasses and shady areas.
If you hit a patch of ice, stay off your brakes and decelerate slowly, holding the steering wheel steady.
On icy roads, drive slowly, increase distance needed for stopping, and avoid using cruise control.
Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained before any trip - check fluid and antifreeze levels.
Keep your gas tank full to prevent water condensation in the tank.
And lastly, buckle up everyone in the vehicle - it's the law.
The weather doesn't appear to be affecting Sunday's B-CS Marathon.
According to a post on the marathon's facebook page, organizers say the race will happen unless there's a drastic change in the forecast between now and Sunday.
The marathon kicks off Sunday morning at 7 A-M.
