Bryan Police Sergeant Remembers Fallen Comrades

Updated: Wed 11:13 PM, Feb 20, 2013

It's a profession that can take anyone at any time.

“It’s the best job in the world,” said Plano Firefighter Jeff Kendrick.

It's a profession that takes courage and strength, even during the most difficult of times.

"It's very sad," said Kendrick. "This is my third memorial service to attend."

Heavy hearts full of compassion, bravery and courage stood guard in front of engine #1; the same goes for the men in front of engine #5. Wednesday morning these firefighters traded in their bunker gear for dress blues, white gloves and shiny shoes. All the while tightly gripping the helmet that was worn just six days ago by 54-year-old Lieutenant Gregory Pickard. The 32-year-veteran firefighter was not only a friend; he was family.

"It's a brotherhood for these firefighters,” said Bryan Police Sergeant Jason James.

Sergeant James was one of the first responders on scene Friday night. He joins the Bryan Fire Department as a member of the Honor Guard.
“I knew these firefighters and to be able to stand here alongside their truck with their fellow firefighters, it's an honor for us to be a part of that,” stated James.

Eric Wallace and Gregory Pickard will be forever missed; and their legacy is certainly one that will never be forgotten.
