Interim City Manager Ousted in Madisonville

Madisonville Interim City Manager Dave Ward is no longer in that position.

At Monday night's city council meeting, Ward's status was among the final topics on the agenda. He had first told the city he was going to serve just six months in the interim role, but had recently said he would serve until a permanent city manager is found.

However, in a unanimous vote following a closed session, the council decided to let Ward out of his interim role.

Ward said among other things, he had requested to have some fuel costs paid for by the city as they had with previous city managers, but instead, the council decided to let him go.

Councilmember Pearline Johnson abstained from voting. Mayor Sonny Dean does not have a vote.

"We have a very indecisive city council that cannot make a decision, and you really need to take a real hard look at who you elect to be on the council," Ward said following the meeting.

Ward thanked Dean and the city employees for their service.

The search for a permanent city manager continues.

Tom Ginter's resignation in early 2007 was followed by the naming of Director of Finance Ruth Smith as the interim. She later asked to not serve in that role anymore because of the heavy work load.

It has been a chaotic 14 months in the city. In addition to the city manager changes, Scott Singletary resigned as mayor shortly after Ginter's departure. Police Chief George Sweetin retired from his post as well.
