An elderly Brenham man found dead after a weekend duplex fire may have died before the fire even started.
That will be determined in an autopsy of Albert House Sr., 83. However it could be weeks before the results are ready.
Brenham Fire Marshal Alan Finke said there were no initial signs of foul play, but there was also no indication House attempted to save himself.
The fire broke out shortly after noon Saturday at House's home on Gay Hill Street. House may have been using the stove's burners to keep warm as all four were turned on.
Fast response by the Brenham Fire Department prevented any other units from suffering damage.
