Bluebonnet Bucks

Its the time of year camera carrying parents look forward to every spring: bluebonnet season.

Not only are the wildflowers beautiful, they also help bring in big bucks to our local economy. Last April alone, 170 people a day visited the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.

All those bluebonnet spectators eat, shop, and fill-up in places along the way, like Brenham. A few of the flowers have started popping up at Old Baylor Park, in Independence, and folks are already starting to take pictures.

If you think Bluebonnet photos are just for children, think again. A leather-clad biker took one last year, in Independence.

"This was solid bluebonnets last year and he laid down in it and did the whole angel in the snow. We were just laughing. Here's this burly guy lying in the middle of all the bluebonnets for people to take his picture," said Eleanor Densford of the Independence Historical Society.

Volunteers at the Independence Historical Society say every spring, the Bluebonnets help attract visitors to the area's historical sites.
