The vacant city manager's position in Madisonville may soon be filled. The city council has selected David Jacobs as its top choice among three finalists.

Jacobs is the current water utilities project manager for the city of Garland. Madisonville Mayor Sonny Dean said the city has begun negotiations with Jacobs about the position. Dean said if a deal can't be reached with Jacobs, the council would move on to its second finalist.

Madisonville hasn't had a permanent city manager for more than a year. Previous manager Tom Ginter resigned in January, 2007. For the past six months, Dave Ward has served as interim city manager. He resigned earlier this month after fulfilling his obligation to the city.
