The former leader of one of America's closest allies says he stands by President Bush's decision to go to war.
Speaking Wednesday night at Texas A&M, former Australian Prime Minister John Howard says the conflict in Iraq is a different kind of war. He says terrorism and its sponsors represent an assault on U.S. and Australian values and societies.
But Howard believes perseverance is the key to victory. "I believe the tide is turning and that the wisdom of the President's decision at the beginning of last year will, as time goes by, be vindicated."
Howard commended the U.S. troop surge strategy saying it is working and should not be abandoned.
