Highway 290 Gets a Facelift

If you drive along Highway 290 in Washington County, you know how congested the 290 and Highway 36 intersection can get. $30 million in road improvements are on the way.

Highway 290 will get two overpasses, one at the FM 577 intersection, and another at Market Street. Some feeder roads will be converted to one way traffic. Part of the money will also go towards easing traffic where highways 290 and 36 meet.

Highway 290 is a Gulf Coast evacuation route. You may remember the massive traffic jam Hurricane Rita evacuees were stuck in on the road, back in 2005.
