A Bryan man has pleaded not guilty to beating a man to death with a shotgun.

Lee Ernest Hamilton, 53, was arrested in June and is now on trial for the crime.

In June 2007, police say Hamilton killed Robert Jordan, 44, by beating him in the head with a shotgun. Hamilton told police Jordan had been harassing him.

Hamilton allegedly tried to shoot Jordan in retaliation, but when the gun didn't go off, he struck him in the head instead.

Opening statements were made Tuesday morning and witness testimony is expected to continue for the next few days.

Hamilton faces five to 99 years or life in prison. If convicted, he could also get probation because he has no prior felony convictions in Texas.
