A local agency is helping more than 140 workers in Brenham that will soon be out of a job.
The weaving operations at the Mount Vernon Mills plant will shut down at the end of May leaving some of the textile workers with only two months to find new jobs. But, the Brazos Valley Workforce Development Board will put a plan into action to aid in finding new employment..
Executive Director for the Brazos Valley Council of Governments, Tom Wilkinson, says, "We will plan a specific job fair, so that the area employers will be aware of their skills."
The workforce commission is optimistic that the employees will find new jobs by the time their severance package ends. Being that Brenham is hopping with manufacturing jobs, Wilkinson is confident that they will find a place for the out-of-work employees.
