After surviving protests, petitions and even a lawsuit, a major residential-retail development in Huntsville is ready to spread its wings.
Ground will be broken Saturday on the new Ravenwood Village, a 120-acre development next to the Huntsville Wal Mart on Interstate 45. It will feature a 55-acre subdivision and a 60-acre retail center with Target as its anchor store.
The tax-increment finance arrangement between the city and developers that made it possible also sparked local opposition last year from residents who wanted to vote on the tax incentives. Those protests turned into a lawsuit attempting to block Ravenwood Village. But the suit was dismissed in January by a U.S. District Court judge.
