A woman who grew up locally is dead after a shooting outside her San Antonio medical office.
Friday around 1:15 p.m., San Antonio authorities say Julie Abbott, a Bryan High School graduate whose family attends Grace Bible Church in College Station, was in the parking lot of the Sonterra Medical Park where she worked. That's when she was apparently confronted by a man who authorities believe is the husband of a patient of Abbott's.
The man reportedly shot and hit Abbott multiple times. She later died at an area hospital
A police officer arrived at the scene just moments later, and after the suspect refused an order to drop his gun, the officer shot the suspect.
As of Friday night, the identity of the man is being withheld pending charges, but he was last said to be in critical condition after undergoing surgery.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown.
Abbott is the daughter of the Lunsford family, the eldest of seven kids. Officials at the church say they are long time attendees of Grace Bible. She went to the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Dallas for much of her higher education.
Brian Fisher, the pastor of Grace Bible, told News 3 Friday night that Julie's parents are holding up as best as they can in a situation like this. The family went to San Antonio following the shooting.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
