BRAZOS COUNTY Authorities say an 18-wheeler was hit by an SUV while traveling on FM 50 early Friday morning, then struck again a short time later.
According to DPS, at around 2:45 a.m., the big rig was heading south on 50 about a quarter-of-a-mile north of Highway 21 when a northbound SUV crossed into the southbound lanes. The two vehicles hit and came off their wheels.
Shortly after the initial wreck, a pickup truck hit the underside of the 18-wheeler, which was still in the roadway.
The 18-wheeler's driver, Jerry Stanton of North Zulch, and the SUV's driver, Victor Sanchez of Caldwell, were both taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan for treatment. The pickup's driver was not injured.
DPS troopers on scene believe alcohol may have been a factor in Sanchez moving into the wrong lane, and are continuing to investigate.
