A woman accused of robbing a Bryan bank at gunpoint and an alleged rapist who targeted women outside College Station bars are among those indicted by a Brazos County grand jury.
College Station residents were relieved last month when police put Frank Powell, 36, behind bars. Officials say Powell broke into two College Station residences and raped two women.
Police say Powell was arrested while trying to break into a third residence, and they believe he would have raped again. He has been indicted for three counts of aggravated sexual assault, attempt to commit burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sex offense, and two counts of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sex offense.
Christopher Phillips, 20, has been indicted for injury to a child.
Officials say a College Station one-year-old died of blunt force trauma while in Phillips' care. According to police, Phillips gave three different explanations for what might have happened to Deznique King, including that she fell down stairs. But a pathologist said that was not the case.
A woman accused of holding up the Texas Enterprise Bank in Bryan has also been indicted.
Leola Maxey, 35, faces one count of aggravated robbery. Police say Maxey handed a teller a note saying she had a gun and demanded money.
Maxey's arrest led to the capture of her alleged partner in crime. Demestra Ross has been indicted for three counts of aggravated robbery.
He's accused of holding up J.J.'s Liquor store and a Shell Station, both in Bryan. Officials found evidence of the crimes in Maxey's apartment.
An indictment is not an admission of guilt; it just verifies there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial.
