It was a record-setting day for the Bryan-College Station Habitat for Humanity. Its single day "Builders Blitz" fund drive raised more than $47,300.
From 5:30am until 7pm Thursday, residents from across the Brazos Valley dropped by the Habitat collection site at Post Oak Mall to drop off donations.
Those gifts ranged from a couple of dollars all the way up to a single gift of $20,000. And all were greatly appreciated and essential to reaching Habitat's ambitious goal of seven homes for seven families in seven days.
The Bryan-College Station Home Builders Association provided the determination and know-how to make it happen. Now thanks, to people like Wilburn Meyer of Caldwell, they have the funding.
"I want to help somebody because I have the ability to help somebody," said Meyer. "I hope that they get on their feet and in turn pay somebody else back."
