It was a very special day for a couple of local students whose Dads served overseas.
Southwood Valley Elementary had a flag ceremony Friday morning, and Included was a Texas flag that was flown in Iraq on Texas Independence Day.
Emily Barber and Shane Clark have dads who served this year at Camp Bucca in Iraq.
Friday, the Texas Flag was raised at the campus.
The entire Kindergarten class was there as Emily and Shane served as honorary members of the color guard.
Both dads are back home, safe after their year of duty.
They both served together at Camp Bucca and did not know each other before leaving.
By some miracle, Shane and Emily were placed together in Mrs. Newton's class this year.
