A new era has begun for the College Station Police Department. Michael Ikner was sworn in Friday as the its next Chief of Police.
Friends, family and colleagues gathered at the Hilton Hotel for a reception immediately afterward. Ikner's first day on the job will be Monday.
But he says once he starts, he won't spend a lot of time sitting behind a desk. "I believe that leaders should be out in the field as much as they can to understand policing at its rawest state," he said. "I'm an advocate for leaders who lead from the trenches. Generals need to lead from the front."
Ikner comes to College Station from the Arlington Police Department where he was Assistant Chief in charge of field operations.
