Caldwell Police have released the name of the man who died Tuesday, after a shoot-out with police.

Louis Avrin, 36 of Caldwell, was shot and killed, after police say he robbed a Brookshire Brothers grocery store, then led officers on a high speed chase.

Police say Avrin wrecked his vehicle, and then fired and hit officer Cougan Hignight}, one of the officers who was chasing him.

Hignight is an 8-month veteran of the force.

Both he and Caldwell's Police Chief returned fire, and Avrin died at the scene.

Police say they have dealt with Avrin before, for what they call "mental issues."

Officer Hignight is recuperating.
