The City of Huntsville Tourism Department has finalized the 2013-14 Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) grant application, and interested parties may retrieve the application on the City’s Web site, www.huntsvilletx.gov.
For the last four years, the City has offered HOT fund support to new and existing events which help attract overnight stays in local hotels and increase the flow of tourists into Huntsville and Walker County.
According to Kimm Thomas, Director of Tourism and Cultural Services, all parties interested in applying for HOT Fund grants for the coming fiscal year will be required to attend a workshop on how to spend the funds.
“We are very excited to once again be able to offer Hotel Occupancy Tax funds to support events which bring an increased number of tourists to the Huntsville/Walker County area,” Thomas said. “This year, we’re hoping to answer many of the questions involved in this process during a HOT funds workshop.
“Justin R. Bragiel, General Counsel for the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association, will be one of the guest speakers, and we will also cover topics including marketing and event planning. There is limited seating, so we would encourage interested applicants to sign up as soon as possible.”
Thomas said the workshop will be held at Comfort Suites on Tuesday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
