As we hear about the continuing fall of the country's economy -- the news isn't nearly as bad for Bryan/College Station.
If you're spending money in the B/CS, you can take credit for keeping the economy thriving locally.
Here are the numbers from April of this year compared to April of last compiled by the A&M Real Estate Research Center:
Retail Spending is up almost 6%.
Auto sales are racing ahead of this time last year, up 46%.
Visitors keeping adding to the economy as well.
Hotel/Motel tax receipts grew almost 6%.
And Home Sales were also up. In fact, this April was a record April for sales..up 10%.
Now there was a downside to all of the numbers.
Although home sales were up, there were some bargains out there.
Home prices were down almost 5% April to April. Economists expect the economy to level off and move sideways for the rest of the summer locally.
