A familiar face is returning to the Navasota city council. Former three-term council member Mark Jackson was appointed Monday night to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Russell Cushman. Jackson will serve the remainder of Cushman's term which expires in May 2010.
Cushman stepped down after accepting a job with a company that does business with the city. Because of the way the Navasota city charter is worded, Cushman wouldn't have been allowed to abstain from votes where there was a conflict of interest involving the company.
