Local Attorney on Trial for Forgery

She is accused of moving large amounts of money to places around the world, now local attorney Helen Mayfield is having her day in court.

Mayfield is charged with 50 counts of forgery. This time around, she is being tried for 12 of those charges.

Court documents state Mayfield admitted she had been involved in six scams in which she cashed counterfeit traveler's checks and sent a portion of the money to the scam artists.

Opening statements were made Tuesday morning, and the trial is expected to continue to at least Friday.
