A routine traffic stop turned into a major accident on Highway 6 early Thursday morning.
According to DPS, it happened just south of Highway 6 and FM 159 just after midnight.
Angie Maratita, 25 of Fort Rucker, Alabama, had been pulled over and was standing on the side of the road while the trooper was working in the passenger seat of his car. That's when another car headed north veered onto the shoulder and hit the stopped cars.
One of those cars slammed into Maratita, who was taken to College Station Medical Center. She was last listed in stable condition.
The trooper, Justin Stohler, was treated and released, as was the other driver, Sean Turner of Tennessee Colony. Blood tests are being done on Turner, but no charges have been filed.
Traffic on Highway 6 was slowed as a result of the investigation.
