A local attorney will have to wait until Tuesday to learn her fate.

A Brazos County jury found Helen Mayfield guilty Friday of 12 counts of forgery. A judge will decide her punishment Tuesday morning.

According to court documents, Mayfield admitted cashing counterfeit traveler's checks and sending a portion of the money to scam artists.

Each of the 12 counts is punishable by up to two years in jail. Mayfield could also face probation.

The judge ordered Mayfield to remain in custody, without bail, until her sentencing.
