A local attorney will spend the next two years in jail for forgery.
A judge sentenced Helen Mayfield, 60, to 24 months behind bars Tuesday afternoon for each of the 12 charges of forgery, but her sentences will run concurrently.
Mayfield must also pay a $6,000 fine and court costs.
A jury found Mayfield guilty Friday of cashing counterfeit traveler's checks and sending a portion of the money to scam artists.
