A rain-slicked road is being blamed for a two-vehicle wreck that seriously injured a Hearne police officer.

Officer Seth Hudson, 23, is in serious condition with a cracked neck and collapsed lung. He was initially taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, but later moved to Scott and White in Temple where he underwent emergency surgery.

The collision happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hearne on Highway 6 in front of the Dixie Café. Authorities say a one-ton trash truck heading south lost control on the slippery road. It hydroplaned into the north-bound lane where it hit Hudson driving his patrol car.

The truck driver was not injured and no charges have been filed.
