A League City mother has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in connection to an October 2005 car accident that killed her four-year-old daughter.
Sonya Marin pleaded no contest in the 21st District Court to a charge of injury to a child. Prosecutors argued Marin was attempting to commit suicide when she drove her car into on-coming traffic on Highway 36 in Washington County.
Marin's car was hit by a semi, and four year old Bishop Zuniga was killed.
The trooper on the scene said at the hospital following the crash, Marin said she was trying to kill herself, and Marin's father also testified to his daughter being depressed in the months leading up to the incident.
Marin, 29, must serve at least half of her sentence before she is eligible for parole.
