Property owners in Brenham have something to smile about. The city council has decided to lower the tax rate.
The council agreed to a tax rate of $.5042 for the coming year. That's slightly less than the current rate of $.5063.
But don't expect the difference to put you on easy street. For a $100,00 home, the savings will be $2.10.
Public hearings on the new rate will be held August 21and September 4, 5:30 p.m. at Brenham city hall. Despite the tax decrease, the city expects to get more tax dollars thanks to higher overall property values.
