A College Station man took a trip to the county jail, after police say he tried to pass a nearly $3,000 fake check.

College Station police say 29-year-old Bobby Woodard took a check into Mr. Payroll on Texas Avenue Friday.

The check was from Stoneridge Farm in Georgia.

Woodard told the clerk he didn't work for the company, but had a friend at the bank that printed the check.

He later told police a man e-mailed him and offered to send him a check.

Woodard has been charged with forgery.

His bond was set at $5,000.
