Summer 2008 has proven to be a very exciting and successful season for many members of the College Station lifeguard staff. The team placed 5th in the International Competition and 1st in the Southwest Region Ellis and Associates International Lifeguard Challenge in Chicago, Illinois on July 30-31, 2008.
Earlier in the summer the team placed second in Ellis and Associates Southwest Region Lifeguard Challenge and also qualified for the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation State Competition in San Antonio, Texas.
Members of the winning team are Jordan Noble, Mara Streckfuss, Becky Rawlins, and Billy Nelson. To help the team prepare for the International Competition in Chicago, Tim Dean from the City of Cedar Park Parks and Recreation Program spent an afternoon to help the team look at scenarios from a different perspective. In Chicago the team was split up again and had to work with other guards from all over the United States. There were three different scenarios including first aid, CPR, rule breaking, and several out-of-water incidents such as lost children and bursting pipes.
The City of College Station is very proud of our lifeguard staff and excited that College Station Aquatics Division was able prove their competence at the international level.
