With death comes reflection. We think about who the person was, what he or she did, and whose lives were touched by their life.
But reflecting on the life of Dr. W-F "Boy" Hasskarl of Brenham is challenging due to the overwhelming number of contributions he made.
His love of history made him one of Washington County's premier historians. His compassion for people made him one of the area's most beloved physicians. Dr. Hasskarl served as mayor of Brenham for two terms and ambassador for Brenham all his life.
In a statement released today, current Brenham Mayor Milton Tate writes: "Dr. Hasskarl was one of a kind, he was a true community treasure. He loved Brenham with all his heart and he was dedicated to serving our community both through his medical practice and as a historian. He has preserved so much of our past and reminded us of who we are, where we come from and why our traditions and values are so important. He bridged a gap from one generation to the next. Dr. Hasskarl was a remarkable man and we will miss him greatly."
Funeral services for Dr. Hasskarl are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Brenham Country Club.
