Her name's Kelly, not Dorothy, but she's certainly not in Kansas anymore.
It wasn't a yellow brick road that led the new Reveille VIII from Topeka, Kansas to the Land of Ags. But she's undoubtedly about to experience a world and a lifestyle straight out of a fairy tale.
Knowing that played in role in the decision of owners Julie Henrichsen and Russell Dyke to part ways with Kelly the collie. "There probably are a lot of breeders who would love to have one from their kennel be Reveille," said Henrichsen. "But reveille takes an extremely special dog."
And Kelly, one of the many collies they raised, turned out to be that special dog. "It's an amazing life she'll have," Dyke said.
Texas A&M found Kelly via a nationwide search. But instead of padding their pocketbooks, Henrichsen and Dyke instead asked the university for a donation to the Collie Health Foundation as their form of payment.
Trainer Felicia VanCleave, raised Kelly from birth and said she'll miss her college-bound friend. "I know she's in good hands and she will live a life nobody else could have. And she'll have a lot of fun."
