We're all looking for a way to save a buck. Now imagine being in the business of spending those precious dollars everyday.
For taxi-cab drivers there's no avoiding it, but one local man found a way to go green and save some green by changing the the way he does business.
"Just compare the cost of fuel to four gallons burned versus 12 gallons burned per shift," Maroon Transportation Founder Jason Adams said.
For Taxi-Cab Driver Jason Adams making the switch to drive green was a no-brainer.
"We were spending just so much money day after day on fuel for our other cars and we started thinking about how we could streamline the bottom line," Adams said.
The bottom line kept leading back to the gas station. Jason says on average they were spending about $45 to $50 per shift just to fill up.
"With the Prius we spend $15 maybe $20 depending on how you drive it," Adams said.
Jason has only had the new hybrid taxi-cab on the road for about nine days, but it's already getting a lot of attention.
"I think we're definitely going to see a trend towards eco-friendly transportation," One of Jason's Clients Jordan Neidinger said.
Each time Jason picks up a client in the new wheels, it's the same reaction.
"I was excited when I knew I was going to get to ride in this one," Maroon Cab Regular John Bodiford said.
That's because clients aren't only using the Hybrid cab to get from point A to point B.
"I've thought about getting one of these cars for a long time," Bodiford said. "I wanted to see if it's actually going to save gas, or a hit and miss."
But saving is exactly what Jason is doing, each time he picks up and drops off a client in this new ride.
"By our calculations we'll save about $13,300 a year in fuel in this car, compared to one of the others," Adams said.
In addition to saving money, Jason also likes the idea of helping out the environment.
"We started looking at how we can be innovative and progressive and how we can set the standard and raise the bar for transportation in this community," Adams said.
Jason says the Hybrid car seems to be the perfect fit.
"I know from living in Las Vegas what it is like to live in a smoggy, dirty area and I don't want to see this community turn into that."
The new hybrid-cab is making such a big impact on Jason's business that he already has plans to phase out all of his other cars and replace them with the green alternative.
He's currently on a waiting list for his next Maroon Cab Hybrid Taxi.
