Bryan Begins Sheltering Efforts for Gustav Evacuees

The City of Bryan has begun housing evacuees from the Gulf Coast as Hurricane Gustav approaches.

According to the city, as of Saturday night, just seven evacuees had to be housed at First United Methodist Church. That is the only shelter at this point that the City of Bryan is operating.

Forty workers running a Baptistmen's mobile kitchen are also working in Bryan, and staying at First Baptist Church.

Louisiana has begun sending evacuees to the state. Brazos County's emergency operations center is active and coordinating efforts as far as sheltering.

College Station has turned Veterans Park on Harvey Road into a reception center for evacuees coming to that city.
