Although many Brazos Valley residents had the day off this Labor Day, they were hard at work for Jerry's Kids.
For 20 straight hours, the KBTX MDA Telethon, held in conjunction with the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, fielded calls pledging money and support in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy.
The end result was more than $169,000 raised in the Brazos Valley, easily surpassing last year's total of $117,000.
Nationally, the fund-raising drive did just as well. Despite an uncertain economy and a hurricane in the Gulf Coast, the 43rd annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day event raised more than $65 million, $1.2 million more than last year.
