Blinn College set an enrollment record in Fall 2008 with 15,645 students, a 7.04 percent increase from Fall 2007. The unofficial 12th class day figures include students on the four campuses, online, and in high schools and prisons. The home campus in Brenham had 2,186. There were 10,989 students in Bryan. The Schulenburg campus had 194 students and the Sealy campus registered 106 students.
The college registered 1,386 students taking classes while in high school including 192 students in Bryan Collegiate High School. Blinn also had 213 students in state and federal prisons. Students taking only online courses accounted for 550. Some students attend more than one campus including taking dual credit and distance education courses.
Blinn also set a record in contact hours increasing 8.5 percent from 2,750,886 to 2,984,632. It is contact hours, rather than headcount, on which state funding is based. The contact hour information from the 2008-9 academic year will be used to calculate formula funding for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years. State appropriations account for approximately 38 percent of the college’s operating budget.
