Evacuees Fill B/CS Hotels

Hotels aren't an option of Hurricane Ike evacuees. Every room in Bryan/College Station is booked.

There are approximately 30 hotels in Bryan/College Station and all 3,700 rooms are full, according to officials with the Bryan/College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Rooms are also booked with evacuees in Waco, San Antonio and Austin, and local hotel officials are sending anyone looking for a hotel room to Killeen.

One Beaumont evacuee staying at the Hilton in College Station said finding a room wasn't easy.

"I screened the Internet looking for availability for a good half a day and found nothing. I just luckily found this Hilton Hotel and I'm glad to be here," said Seebert Jarreau of Beaumont.

For the next two weeks, Governor Rick Perry is suspending the collection of state and local hotel and motel taxes for victims of Hurricane Ike. Perry says the suspension is backdated to Sept. 8.
