The City of Navasota officials met with Entergy representatives and were briefed on the status of the electricity. Entergy reported that 99% of their Texas customers were out of power due to extensive damages to the transmission and distribution systems. Entergy customers can expect power outages for several days.
Due to these power outages, the City of Navasota’s water and wastewater systems will not be able to operate at full capacity. Residents are urged to conserve water by limiting the amount of water each household utilizes as supplies are very limited and to flush toilets only when necessary. Residents can expect to see sewage back-ups as life stations are without power.
Until further notice, the mayor has issued a curfew for tonight and tomorrow from 7:00pm to 7:00am due to power outages. School has been cancelled Monday for Navasota ISD. The City of Navasota has a small supply of ice that is being distributed at the Navasota Center at 101 Stadium Drive. At this time, residents may pick up one bag of ice per household.
Grimes St. Joseph hospital is not accepting patients as electricity and water issues have become apparent. Although GSJHC is on diversion for EMS and ambulances, a team will remain at Grimes to care for walk-in Emergency Room patients. Also available to Grimes residents who have urgent medical needs is St. Joseph Express, an urgent care center located on the access road of Highway 6, just north of William D. Fitch Parkway in College Station.
Elderly and special needs patients are recommended to seek shelter with friends and family until power is restored. If you have special needs, and are unable to find adequate shelter, please call the Navasota Center at 936-825-2241.
City management and staff are working diligently to handle all requests and needs – we appreciate your patience. For emergencies call 911. For reported damages and needs please call 825-6410.
