It has been four days since many Caldwell residents had the luxury of electricity. Even though some are frustrated with the lack of power, many folks are making the most of the situation. It is all thanks to one item-few have been fortunate enough to find.

For the past few days life in Caldwell has been quiet. Few cars fill the town square, walking has become the preferred mode of transportation and neighborhoods are still.

However, if you're in the right place at the right time, there is one sound you'll hear at the homes and businesses of the fortunate.

Generators are keeping life in Caldwell as normal as possible.

"They always call and ask if we're open and we say we got the generator going, come on," Melinda Pertl with Caldwell hair salon, The Cottage said.

At The Cottage, work hasn't slowed down.

"Ice on the steps, women still come," Pertl said.

A generator keeps hair dryers, flat irons and curling irons running all day long.

"Today there's only two of us working and tomorrow all five of us will be here so we may have to rotate a bit," Pertl said.

Across the street, the Department of Public Safety is business as usual, thanks to a generator providing enough electricity to get by.

The harsh sound has turned sweet to those lucky enough to have the power provider, and it's getting these residents through a dark time.

Burleson County Judge Mike Sutherland tells News Three that power could be back up within the next 48 hours.

Until then, free, hot meals will be served to residents without electricity. Wednesday at noon and 6 p.m. meals will be served at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell and at The First Baptist Church in Somerville.
