United Way of the Brazos Valley is the financial agent in times of an emergency that works with the Brazos County VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) to determine how to handle disbursement of collected funds. As a result of raising over $102,000 at yesterday’s United We Help, funds will be available tomorrow, Friday, September 19th from 9am – 5pm at the BVCOG (Brazos Valley Council of Governments) Center for Regional Services located at 3991 East 29th Street in Bryan.
Gift cards will be available to individuals directly affected by Hurricane Ike. The gift cards will be in increments of $50 per person with a maximum of $200 per family. Individuals will need to bring identification in the form of a valid driver’s license with an address reflecting the hurricane strike zone, and their social security number. These gift cards are to be used for personal needs such as gas, groceries, prescriptions, baby formula or diapers.
This initial disbursement of gift cards is intended for those in any type of temporary shelters, hotels and those persons residing with friends or family in Brazos County. United Way of the Brazos Valley is also working closely with the BVCOG and our surrounding county judges to assess the needs for other counties to receive financial assistance. These counties include Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and Washington.
