Ike Pet Refugees Find New Homes, New Life

The Montgomery County Animal Shelter is thanking hundreds of you who helped save lives.

After News 3' stories aired on the huge influx of pets stranded by Hurricane Ike that would have likely been put down this weekend, the head of the shelter board says the shelter was empty for the time ever, as the animals found plenty of new homes.

Foster parents even showed up to make sure their little friends found a permanent family.

According to the shelter, they receive more than 2,500 animals each month. While the goal for them is to be a 100 percent kill-free shelter, it is difficult, official say, because of the large number they receive.

If you've picked up an Ike pet, be sure to make a trip to the vet, as the conditions they came were not ideal.
