A major accident on Highway 21 near Caldwell Tuesday morning trapped a driver and backed up traffic for over an hour.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. just east of FM 908, a couple miles west of Caldwell.
According to the Department of Public Service, a commercial truck pulled out onto Highway 21, when a Ford pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed came up behind it and slammed into the back of the vehicle.
The driver of the pickup truck, Reinol Torres, 38, was pinned inside the vehicle, and it took the jaws of life to get him out, DPS troopers said.
Torres was taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan with life threatening injuries, according to DPS. He was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon. The other driver was not hurt.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 21 were shut down for an hour and a half.
