Construction of a new landfill for Bryan-College Station cleared a major hurdle Tuesday night.

The Bryan city council signed off on a $13.2 million contract to begin building the Twin Oaks Landfill in Grimes County. It had already received approval from College Station.

Funding will come from $4.8 million already in the Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency's account. The cities will then issue $8.4 million in certificates of obligation later in the fiscal year.

The company awarded the contract is C. Watts and Sons out of Oklahoma City.
