Davis Helps Romei, But Says He's Not on Defense Team

Former Judge and district attorney candidate Rick Davis says he's not a member of P. David Romei defense team, and was only asked for help on a matter of constitutional law.

Davis told News 3 Saturday that despite reports he is on the team of the former Arts Council director, he is actually wrapped up in a civil matter and cannot be in two places at once.

Davis did help with the writing of a motion that was filed in district court a few weeks back, and briefly appeared at a pretrial hearing Friday, the same day he was reprimanded again by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

Romei is charged with third degree felony theft, accused of stealing arts and city money for his own use. He has pleaded not guilty.

Jury selection begins Monday.
